Short: Asks user for a password (CLI/WB)
Author: tfloquet@minitel.net
Uploader: tfloquet@minitel.net
Type: util/boot
************
Requirements
************
A hard drive, but you can protect a diskette if you want to.
Getpassword features :
- Doesn't detach from CLI
- Stays at front
- No break
- Hollywood-movies-like screen, with blinking "Access denied"
- Case sensitive
- Blind keystrokes
- Gives time for multitask (runs at 25fps max.)
- Source provided
************
INSTALLATION
************
To install it, put it anywhere in your user-startup, or
copy the program into the WBSTARTUP drawer, Getpassword
can be launched both from WB or CLI.
You can run it at any time, for example, you have to
answer a phone call in another room and don't want your
kids/wife/mother/dad/dog/cat/alien... to put a huge mess on
your hard drive while your Amiga is rendering a beauty !
********************************
How to set/modify the password ?
********************************
Create a plain text file in the sys:prefs/ drawer, called GETPASSWORD
(with no extension) that will contain the password user will have to type.
The password will stop at the 1st character under $20, so if your file
looks like:
+-----+
!OH ! .. the password will be "OH"
!YEAH !
+-----+
and if we put spaces (shown as "."):
+-----+
!OH.. ! .. the password will be "OH.."
!YEAH !
+-----+
If Getpassword doesn't find his prefs file, a password will be
asked anyway. It will be empty so just press the ENTER key
to validate.
*****************************************************
WARNING / DISCLAIMER / IMPORTANT / READ THIS / !!!! /
*****************************************************
It is !-VERY-! easy to bypass Getpassword, using the
early-startup (boot with no startup-sequence) or
booting with a diskette.
Getpassword just offers a protection against kids.
At home it works, with kids aged 13 and 4.
(Well, the older has his own Amiga ;)
Don't expect ANY good protection from Getpassword,
the protection is 99% based on dissuasion !
So if you want to protect your Amiga from hackers
(even bad ones), find another program. Mine is nice,
that's all.
Don't blame me if somebody unwanted enters your Amiga.
I won't take ANY responsability for ANY problem involving
Getpassword.
***************************
For AZERTY keyboards users:
***************************
Getpassword knows only the UK keyboard (QWERTY), no
matter the keyboard you have selected for your system.
So if you want user to enter "ABCD", type "QBCD" in the
prefs file. It's the same for all letters with variable
mapping : AZQWM and symbols (,?;.:/"+# and so on).
Getpassword was coded using AMOS 1.34.
